Sturgeon from Kootenai River

Boundary County Sturgeon

Sturgeon fishing in the Kootenai River used to be very common.

However the population of the sturgeon has decreased since the building of the Libby Dam, in Montana.

The Kootenai Indians are now operating a fish hatchery, and releasing young sturgeon into the river.

Below are pictured two "old-timers" and an average sized catch.
