PIONEER'S WIFE DIES

Mother of Large Family Dies During
Birth of Her Eighth Child
.

 

Mrs. Minnie McKenzie, wife of
Daniel McKenzie, passed away in her
home at Samuels, Idaho, January 16,
1919, with pneumonia.
Mrs. McKenzie was born in
Lincoln, Neb , September 19, 1868, of
a poor but industrious family, by the
name of Winchester. When Minnie,
(Mrs. McKenzie), their youngest
daughter, was six years of age the
Winchester family emigrated from
Lincoln, Neb., to Calispel valley in
Washington, where the family made
their home. At the age of 19 their
daughter, Minnie, married Daniel
McKenzie of Calispell. The young
couple moved to Spokane to live for
a few weeks and from there to Sand-
point, where they spent their past
22 years of life together except the
few months they lived in Alberta,
Canada.

      Mrs. McKenzie was taken sick at
her home December 26, 1918 with
a severe cold and January 13, 1919 ,
a son was born. Pneumonia fever
set in immediately causing the death
of mother and baby in spite of all
the good care Dr. McKinnon could
give them.

Mother and child were buried in
the I O. O. F. cemetery at McArthur,
leaving a husband and seven chil-
dren to mourn their death, of whom
four of the children are small and
at home with their father, also two
daughters. Mrs. Dunn of Selle, and
Mrs. Boyd of Hillyard. Wash The
other son, Clarence McKenzie, is in
Sandpoint taking treatment from Dr
McKinnon
