John E. Mattmiller  -   January 29, 1942 - February 16, 2012

John Edgar Mattmiller, 70, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 20th at Holy Myrrhbearing Women Orthodox Church in Bonners Ferry with Fr. Gregory Horton presiding. Burial services will follow and a luncheon will be held at the church. In addition, a memorial service/vigil will begin Sunday evening at 7:00 pm at the church.

John was born on January 29, 1942, in Kellogg, Idaho to Russell Edgar and Maebelle Mattmiller. He attended grade school in Kellogg, and high school in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Following graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. John lived and worked in Napa, California before returning to Idaho in 1978. He married Jennifer Hubbard in 1986, and then completed culinary school at Seattle Central Community College. The family moved to McCall, Idaho where John worked as a chef.

John was baptized in the Holy Orthodox Church in 2000, of which he remained a faithful servant up until the time of his death. He was a member of the Holy Myrrhbearing Women Orthodox Church. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, huckleberry picking, fishing, reading spiritual materials, and doing the New York Times crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his loving wife Jenny Mattmiller of Sandpoint; 5 children: Lisa Nichols of San Diego; Brandee (Bill) Reynolds of Lewiston, ID; John Mattmiller of Rathdrum; James Mattmiller of Coeur d’Alene; Ruth Mattmiller of Sandpoint; 7 grandchildren: Brandon, Joshua, Anna, Olivia, Jameson, Maesyn Belle, and Keagan; brother Russell (Marlene) Mattmiller of Sandpoint; and sister-in-law SharriLee Mattmiller of Weaverville, California; as well as many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Bill and Jim.
