Mrs. Alma Mastre

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Mrs. Alma (Amoth) Mastre, was born Nov. 15, 1901, near Wales, N. D. where she grew to womanhood.

In 1918 she received Christ as her personal Saviour and upon the confession of her faith was baptized and added to the Mennonite church, remaining a faithful member.

On Nov. 23, 1919, she was joined in marriage to Gust Mastre of Grafton, N. D., with whom she shared life's joys and sorrows for 17 years. During their married life they lived in North Dakota, Colorado and at various places in Kansas.

On Oct. 17, 1947, her companion passed away suddenly, leaving our mother very lonely. However with the help of God she carried on faithfully as a mother in the home. She always showed much concern for her family and offered many prayers in our behalf, bringing us up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

After father's passing, mother and children moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where she lived until the Lord called her Home.

Mother enjoyed fair health until about six weeks ago, when her health began to fail. She was taken to the hospital and all that medical aid and loving hands could do was done for her. Five days before her passing the doctors told us she was suffering from acute leukemia and that medical aid could not help her. When this was told to mother she expressed a great desire to be taken to her own home. Her wishes were fulfilled and she spent three days in her own home.

She bore her suffering patiently and was resigned to the Lord's will. During her sickness she showed much concern for her family and especially for her four sons who are still at home. Her concern was also for those who are still unsaved.

Mother peacefully fell asleep in Jesus, March 19, 1958, at 10:00 p. m. at the age of 56 years, four months and four days. She was preceded in death by her husband, four children and her parents.

Left to mourn her too early departure are her 12 children: Irene (Mrs. Monroe Toews) of Winton, Calif., Gladys (Mrs. Dell Curry) of Turlock, Calif., Iva (Mrs. Curtis Dirks), Cyril, Stanley, Doris (Mrs. Leonard Unruh), Bob and Joan (Mrs. Ernie Dirks), all of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, Roy, Glenn, Bill and Lloyd of the home; five sons-in-law, three daughters-in-law; 20 grandchildren; three brothers, Henry, Albert and Walter Amoth of Bonners Ferry; three sisters, Mrs. John Johnson of Park Rapid, Minn., and Mrs. Peter Toews of Barron, Wis.; and many other loved ones and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Mountain View Mennonite Church near Bonners Ferry on March 22, 1958, at 1:00 pm. Opening remarks and prayers were by Min. Eddie Justus, and the sermon by Min. A. T. Koehn, based on Heb. 9:27 and Rev. 14:13. Closing remarks and prayer were by Min. Clifford Mastre. She was laid to rest in the Mt. View Mennonite Cemetery.
