Born August 7, 1914 in North Platte, Neb., Riley Keslar passed away Dec. 31, 2003 at home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho after a courageous battle against cancer. Services were held Monday, Jan. 5, 2004 at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
Riley was raised in the North Platte, Neb. area where he worked as a ranch hand, carpenter and then retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, black powder shooter and lover of the great outdoors.
Riley mentored a lot of children besides being a great father to his own two daughters and a loving, devoted husband to his wife of 45 years.
Riley loved his six grandchildren and telling them stories and tales. His friendship with the neighbors and friends from Sater's Auction filled his days along with his rose garden, yard and feeding and watching the birds.
There will never be another Riley with his quick wit and steadfast love and friendship. He will be greatly missed by us all.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Cooper); daughters, Brenda Finch (Wayne) of Rexford, Mont, and Deanna Merritt (Gary) of Maywood, Neb.; and six grandchildren, Angela, Stephanie and Melanie Finch of Rexford, Mont., Rachel Merritt of Chadron, Neb., and Eric and Ashley Merritt of Maywood, Neb.; brother, J.R Keslar (Geneieve) of of North Platte, Neb.; sisters, Donna Abel (Carl) of Morgan Hill, Calif., Phyllis Potter (Loren) of Scottsbluff, Neb.; and numerous other relatives.
Riley was preceded in death by parents, Helen Tatman Keslar and Jess Keslar, and brothers, Bryan and Fred Keslar. There will be a memorial service to be held in North Platte, Neb. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be sent to the Hospice of Bonner County or the Walden House of Coeur
