John Dirks, age 58, expired at Community Hospital here on the morning of Monday, Jan. 24. He was a patient there for seven days.
He was born August 9, 1913, in Tampa, Kan., the son of Enoch and Hannah Koehn Dirks.
As a resident in Boundary County he engageged in logging and farming. He was also active in mining , woodcraft and was an ardent hunter, enjoying the out-of-doors. He was a well-respected man in the eyes of his mumerous friends in this area.
In October of 1971 he was admitted to Holy Family Hospital in Spokane for major surgery. He later returned here to recuperate.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Hannah Dirks, here; three sons, Donald, Republic, Wash., Gaylord and John, both of Hayden Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Twyla Oberts, Coeur d'Alene; along with five brothers, four sisters, and six grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church here.
Holy rosary will be recited on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 8:00 p.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Chapel Funeral. mass, with Father Albert V. Dulberg as celebrant, will be held Friday morning, Jan 23, at 10:00 a.m. from St. Ann's Church. Internment will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
